Default 4.9 on fire

I was just given an 88 Ford f150 lariet truck from my son that actually caught fire nothing major (oil leak on valve cover) but it burnt through the fuel lines, some wires and such. Ok my question is this I am old school i like v8s and carbs. will the auto trans in this truck bolt up to a very stock 302 with maybe a 650 carb, edelbrock intake and headers. just want it to sound good and run good. If you know or did this i would like to know how you set up your electronic distributor and how you did away with the computer for the efi. also if the trans is not worth keeping or doesnt mate up what would be a good non computerized 4 speed auto would work best. one more thing can i keep the air it still works great.

thanks

Yes it can happen, but its going to cost you.

To go from an I6 to V8, first thing is motor mounts. You will need the frame mounted, behind the cross member mounts for the V8 to be set on.

Yes, both engines share the same bell housing bolt pattern to mate up. If its AOD it can be run without computer, if its AODE, then you need to keep the computer for shifting.

A fuel pressure regulator with bypass will be needed if you are going to keep the EFI fuel system.

I will be running an HEI distributor. You can get them from Jegs or Summit Racing. Simple switch to power on or off and a plug for a tach. Everything is self contained and regulated.

I am not sure about the air, depends where the pump is on the I6 vs the V8
