well do you have the 351 out of an old parts truck, or is it just the motor?

How much are you planning on swapping?

If you're wanting to go back to the carb setup - eeesh! It's been done, but beyond my level of expertise.

The engine should bolt up to the tranny with no problems - just a matter of figuring out the engine control strategy.

i found a 351 out of an 82 and it said its complete carb to pan. i would just go with a carb setup cause carbs are easier then FI. i just need to know if it would work with my tranny or if i would need another one. if i could use the same tranny, could i use the same clutch too? what about the flywheel? just trying to get an idea of what i would need to do the swap and if its worth doing.

im not 100% but i think i remember someone doing this awhile ago and just to be safe they bought a new tranny anyway because they had to beef up the one they had so they just bought a new one. i mean, if you dont mind spendin a couple more $$ then go w/ a new tranny. you can get a used one for a bargain. just check your local classifieds

i'm not sure if the 351 will bolt up to your 5 speed. to my knowledge i don't remember ford offering a 5 speed behind a 351 in the 1/2 ton,not in the newer ones anyway. you could get one in a 3/4 ton or 1 ton, but that was the heavier duty 5 speed. maybe being a 82 engine would be different.

yeah, i concur. youll have to get under there and see what kind of your transmission is first. then go from there.

there is also a company called Advanced Adapters that can mate just about any engine to tranny to transfer case. if you need an adapter, these guys will probably be able to help you.

Have you checked out the ignition box. My 78 Cougar with a 351W had a bad one and being new to Ford ignition system, at the time, it took awhile to figure it out. This ignition is still better then the electronic ignitions found in Dodge trucks in the early 70's. If it is something else well.................
