and add gears, you wont gain more HP but the HP you do got will be used better.
How hard is it to change gearing.. Especially in the front axle?

I try to take it easy on it, always have. I get on it every now and then.. evidently I could get on it a little harder if I wanted, probably will keep doing just what I have been doing though. LOL
Have you dont anything else to gain a little more power? Seems like it would be about right if it had about 30 more HP. Of course then you woudl want 30 more, then more, etc.. endless cycle. But is there anything fairly simple that will add a few more ponies?
you can easily add 30 hp by doing a super tune and adding Headers and a good exhaust

for the rear you can just switch the whole axle, easy. the front is a little harder, you can just switch the front but im not 100% sure how hard it is.

What qualifies as a super tune? Do headers really do that much?

do a good tune consist of getting rid of all carbon deposits...

IVD (Intake Valve deposits) and CCD (Crank case deposits) Seafoam will get the CCD and piston tops but it takes a bit to get the IVD so something stronger is needed...

getting rid of all the carbon lets you use more timing before knock and getting into Knock retard which pulls out timing and power suffers....

cleaner intake internals means better fuel atomization and means more power with less fuel used.

Yes Headers help... usually 20-30hp just on the install alone....and thats with full length long tube headers.... shorties are only around 10hp

I was curious about shift points on my 302 automatic. WOT first gear to the second gear is 5200, Second gear to third gear is 4900. Driving normal is about 1800.

I always thought that the redline was 5500 but I may be wrong. Just seems 5000 would really be winding things up, I think I would be afraid to try it although it would probably be fine.

no sweating it.... really no need.

the shift points are probably set to 5500 on an automatic but the weaker the engine the lower that number will be and the opposite holds true... the stronger the engine the higher it will be...

I swapped carbs once and lost 500rpm on the shift point... told me right away the carb was too small

Got to thinking a little bit about what the doctor said. I have a 95 302 MAF. The OEM system is set up for Air to enter the system just below the hood and above the grill at the inlet pipe. This has always seemed a little restrictive. Went to the wrecking yard and picked up an inlet tube, where the air will come in behind the grill. Cut the curved end off of it. I assume this was for Watersplash protection. Zip tied the plastic splash shield for the headlights back, seems like there'll have a little better shot of getting air straight to the inlet.

Ran another WOT test. First gear to second gear 5600 RPMs. It was just above 5000 before the mod. Might be placebo effect, but the power seems a little smoother. Sure would be nice if the MPG's also came up a bit!!!
