Lightbulb 2wd with 4x4

what do you all think about adding the 4x4 tranny transfercase and drive shaft in a 2wd so you could utilize the 4x4 low gear just for the rear wheels

I think it's a good start for when you get the front axle later.

i want to get the low gear ratio for when you need it like pulling a trailer up a big hill wake it where your engine doesn't have to work so hard

you could also get a underdrive kit that would do similar things, plus would double the gearing options you currently have.

i think thats a really redneck idea. if you dont have the power to tow what you have going uphill, its time to upgrade. your basically saying your ognna pull of the road, shift into 4low, and creep up a hill, then when get to the top your gonna pull off the road again and put it back in 2? yeah, that sounds like a great idea.....

It's not a really redneck idea at all. I do it all the time whenever I pull a trailer. I do have 4wd, but I shift to 4 low because of gears and not for the traction. My driveway is about 1/4 mile of a single lane dirt road that is a fairly decent incline and while hauling and pulling I'd rather creep slowly than have to go 15 mph in 1st gear.

Exactly what I do with my 95 pulling a travel trailer. Around slave lake theres some big hills east of town. The 300 6 pulls that thing like theres nothing there but going down could jackknife, plus i got the manual transmission too

jackknife going down? Do you have trailer brakes? I'd suggest it if pulling over 2000 lbs. Our trucks have wimpy brakes.
