Default 2WD and 4WD E40D's

I've found a low mileage transmission and a guy willing to fit it for a reasonable price. It is, however a 2WD transmission, and my truck is 4WD.

Can I just put a longer rear drive shaft on from a U-Pull and put the 2WD transmission in, I don't need or want 4WD.

Yes, if you get the correct length driveshaft you can use the 2wd tranny. You can also swap the main shaft from the transmissions and keep it 4wd, but that is a lot of work and not an easy task since both transmissions would have to be disassembled.

Yeah. The guy told me that. I found a 2WD E40D on Craigs list for $150, the guy says he'll put it in for extra. I just need to go out and get a 2WD drive shaft, I can pick one up for $15 on 1/2 price Tuesday at the local Upull

Yeah man, those u-pull-it places are great. I went to one on half price day and got my transmission, crossmember, floor plate, shifter and boot, clutch, pressure plate, master and slave cylinder for $85. This was for my 4 speed to 5 speed swap.

Nice. Hopefully this deal I'm working on will pull through, otherwise I'll find another 2WD transmission. I don't need the 4WD and the transfer case is just a bitch as it mounts to the transmission directly and not the truck. When I took it all down, it fell right off the jack because of the transfer case.
