Default 2wd to 4wd

Hey I have a 1995 f150 with a 302 v8. It has 186000 miles. I need to put new ball joints in it but I have a 1989 f150 that is 4wd that just had all of that stuff replaced on it. Could I just swap front ends and make my truck 4wd?

Axle (front and rear if different ratios), transmission, transfer case and driveshafts. Both need to be the same wheelbase to use the rear driveshaft.

They are both short beds. I already put the rear end out of the 4 wd in my truck. But my truck is a standard and that one is an auto matic. Could I just buy a standard tranny for my 95 that is for a 4wd and then just use the transfer case off of the 89?

Yes, or buy the tailshaft and transfer case adapter for yours. But you have to completely disassemble the transmission to put in the tailshaft.
