Depends On how much cackle you want. The larger the pipe the more cackle and less low end torque you will have

3" too big unless engine is highly modified or a diesel.

should I consider 2 1/4? not necissarily going for sound would rather have more torque than better sound...I belong in a diesel but cannot afford it

That actually may not Be a bad idea seeing as how short the pipes are going to be. If im not mistaken thats what size stock is and a cherry bomb will flow way better than the stock muffler

i have a 96 5.0 with some moderate motor work and headers. i have 3 in comin out of the headers and my buddy gave me a magna flow that was 2.5 comin out. i put the muffler on and the truck struggled for power. so it depends on what your truck will act like

thats true. i felt a loss i power with my glasspacks on so i cut them off and my truck runs smoother and feels like all the power is there.

Ive got 2 1/4 pipe on my windsor with a single chamber flowmaster and that sounds badass. But my 460 has dual 3 inch pipe, two single chambers, and headers. And 460 cackels alot more but its louder but the windsor has a better tone.
