Just read about a faulty air bag. Takata airbag and been selling since 2000. But as a general question, what about 1996 and that period? What do we know about it, general experience and after 20 years does it need some servicing? Thank you in advance.

Not aware of any defects from the earlier years, and not sure what Ford recommends - but my 1995 Honda Civic owners manual called for air bag service at 10 years. Seems somewhat reasonable that the stuff that makes it go 'pop' may lose some of its effect over time.

Maybe check the owners manual, if you still have it?

Never heard of an issue like the takata thing and we probably would have by now. Whether or not they'll still work ? I look at mine and say I don't know if it'll work or not, but I'm pretty sure it won't blow me full of schrapnel. So I'll take it the way it is.
