1996 Gauges Quit Working
This is a two wheel drive 4.9 five speed std. trans. truck.
Problem is all gauges to right of Speedo quit working at times.
Would not be too big a problem but the gas gauge is over there
and truck is driven by many different people. Not everyone does
think to check for gas then half way to city they panic not knowing
if they have any.
My guess is a bad connection in the dash, maybe a cracked solder
joint?
Has anyone else had this problem and found the cause?

not sure what all changed between my 89 and your 96 - but mine has a connector that plugs into a flexible circuit board thingie. I would suggest that you pull the panel and start wiggling things - suspect a bad connection. Not sure of any hard-wired solder joints - but have always been suspicious of the integrity of the connections to and from that flexible circuit.
