Default 1995 starting problem

I just want to make sure I cover all of my bases before I change out my starter. My truck doesn't start at all. The engine doesn't even try to turn over. I just hear the click as if the battery is dead. I changed out the battery and the problem is still there. The radio and lights still work, and I get 12 volts at the battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Wade

is the click coming from the solenoid or from the starter?

try crossing the terminals on the solenoid with a screw driver or something, DON'T TOUCH THE METAL ON THE SCREW DRIVER OR YOUR GUNA GET SHOCKED.

if it starts after that then its a bad solenoid. if there is no change then its most likely the starter or a bad connection on the battery or starter.

Also make sure you're completely in park / neutral and the clutch is depressed all the way if it is a manual.

Make sure the cables are tight, and an auto parts store should be able to bench test your starter before you buy a new one. Old school troubleshooting-bang on it with a hammer while some turns the key on.

I had the same problem. It was the battery cable. The splice on the side gong to the starter came apart but you couldn't see it because the insulation was holding it together. I found it when I pulled the battery to change the starter and it came apart. I used 2 hose clamps to put it back together (temporarily), & it started right up.
