Default 1994 xlt

Hey guys,. New to the forum here, and never owned an F-150. Never owned a truck, for that matter, but have been looking for one ever since expatriating from the city. Really dig the 80s - 90s Ford half-tons and would appreciate some wisdom. Came across this 1994 XLT, 5.0 with RWD. The seller reports that it has been garaged when not in use for the last 20 years. It appears to be largely rust-free, though I have not done an up close inspection. They are asking $7,995. What would be a fair price for this truck? Anything specific I should focus on when looking it over? I know radiator and leaf spring mounts.. Any known issues to be aware of?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Nice shape but price is way too high for a 94.. I wouldn't pay over 3500.

I'd pay half of what he is asking if it is 9/10 in all areas.

'If' it was a 4X4 it would still be a couple thousands dollars too high

Thank you. I was thinking of making an offer somewhere in the 4-5 k range if it all checks out. It is a very clean truck.. Any specific points to pay attention to when inspecting?

Frame rust (the right rear spring isn't a big deal), wheel arch rust (either look from inside the wheelwells, or pull the ~5 screws for each wheel lip moulding), wiring mods/butchery (look under the dash carefully, particularly for ScotchLok splices, and that knot around the Left rear bumper brackets), fault codes (easy to check with a paperclip), coolant condition/color/odor, tire age (easy to read), cheap replacement parts (battery, MAF, radio), worn suspension bushings, functionality of both gas tanks (easy to smell)...

I'm not a fan of those running boards, but they look to be installed better than most I've seen. All that wood on the dash would drive me nuts.

It's 25 years old - there's no telling what has happened to it in that time. So even if it was the most-reliable vehicle when it was 5 years old, that doesn't really apply any more. It's going to be about as reliable as any other '92-96 F150. Of course, it will have its own advantages & disadvantages, depending on its specific problems & your perspective. Some people consider PW/PL/PM to be disadvantages.
