Default 1994 heater core

I have a 1994 5.0 302 and the heater core does not work. I am lead to believe it leaked on the previous owner due to the stain in the passenger carpet and the fact the hoses have been disconnected from the heater core and connected to each other. I have no problem replacing the heater core and have one ordered. My only problem is I do not know which hose goes to which port on the heater core. Any insight and advise would be greatly appreciated.

The one coming from your thermostat should be the inlet and the other is a return line from the heater core.

Makes no difference. Both hoses are the same size. Does not matter which one flows in or out of the core.

x2 it can flow either way through it. So whichever way the hoses lay the prettiest is the way I'd go.

Not that it really matters, but from the factory it was hooked up passenger side port to the water pump/ throttle body, driver's side port to the intake (302)

They do make some heater cores that are mono directional like this one from rockauto

"Elastomeric Restrictor
Placed in outbound tube of heater to optimize coolant velocity and heat transfer"

If you didn't get one equipped like this then the direction doesn't matter but just saying that there are some that it does.
