Default 1994 cruise/speed control debugging

The cruise control in my 1994 5.0l w/automatic transmission is not working. The clock spring & VSS have been replaced. The horn works. Where do I go from here? I am looking for diagnostic suggestions. What do I check?

Thanx Lobo

If I remember correctly there was a recall on some of the wiring for the cruise control. Has that been done on yours?

Good question. Since I have had the truck for only the last 2 years I don't know. Now to track down the recall & find out what it is about.

Thanx Lobo

That should be easy enough to do. Get your VIN(vehicle identification number) and call your Ford dealer, or better yet just drive the truck to your Ford dealer. They can quickly look up whether the recall has been done to your truck.

The bain of rural living, 25 - 30 miles to the nearest Ford dealer. Going to try via phone before I take the trip.

There are websites that will do the VIN check for recalls for you. Do a web search for Ford truck recalls.

I can do that. If the parts are inexpensive I can do it myself and save the time & fuel cost.

Well I checked and found the recall & that for my truck the recall is incomplete (meaning the deactivation switch has not been replaced/upgraded. Is this something I can do? I have done the clock spring change and am reasonably mechanical.

As I read the recall it is just a replacement of the deactivation switch, which I am assuming is the "off" switch for the cruise control and that this could result in my cruise control being inoperative. Please alert me if I am incorrect. Need to replace the switch in either case.

Thanx Lobo

Upon further research, duh, I have corrected this recall by replacing the switch with a new Motorcraft switch. On to more diagnoses.
