Default 1993 e4od help.....

1993 e4od 2wd 5.0 302

I bought this truck recently and noticed that it engaged in gear very rough. Sometimes it would jar the entire truck. 1-2 shift was bad, other shifts were hard. I changed filter and fluid from pan twice. Not much change. I have been driving it like that. It drives much better when clod in morning, but can still misbehave. I have noticed if I add a tube of Dr. Tranny's instant shudder fix (which is concentrated friction modifier) it will tame the hard shifts for a week or so then it will just go back to how it was. Recently, the tranny has been slipping and hard shifting. Sometimes upon acceleration 1-2 shift will feel like it engaged 2 or 3 times really fast. Sometimes shifts will jerk the truck. Sometimes it will slip out of 3-4. With OD off, it hasn't slipped yet and shifts are less harsh. I am thinking rebuild time and I found a shop to do a rebuild for $850 with warranty. A buddy of mine says change solenoid pack first. ANY IDEAS?

Scan for codes, change fluid and filter.

sense you have already changed the fluid and filter twice with no luck ..I would spend the $850...thats a real good price.

What are symptoms of bad solenoid pack? Torque converter? Yeah 850 is awesome good for a rebuild with warranty so that's the route I will go if I can't figure anything else here....
