1990 starter question
have a 1990 f150 4wd 5.0l EFI with original 4 speed trans.
I rebuilt the engine and upgraded to a mazda 5 sp.
the 1990 starter doesn't have a solenoid on it and bolts to the block....
the 5 sp starter needs to bolt to the housing and is the type with
a solenoid ON the starter.
My question is can I just hook up the one wire from the starter relay(on the inner fender) to the 5 sp starter solenoid center terminal/bolt. and not hook up the other solenoid small solenoid terminal on my application?
I have not changed any of the wiring it is all still 1990 stock.....
thnks

Apparently your 5 speed transmission must have came out of a 1992 or newer truck(which is fine) and you must have gotten that starter along with the transmission.
You just need to use your 1990 starter with the 5 speed transmission. The part that bolts up and the part that goes inside to the flywheel should be the same. Compare the two starters as best you can and see. Beings both the 4 speed and the 5 speed were manual transmissions those parts should be the same.
They(Ford) didn't start putting the solenoids on top of the starters until 1992.
