97' F150 4.2 V6 5spd engine rebuild and egr delete
#11
It crossed my mind but the cylinder walls still look great so I will just hone them and install new piston rings and I should still get a long life out of this engine.

I going to get rid of the EGR system that injects inert gas (nasty sooty black smoke into your intake, heads etc and gums up everything. Also getting rid of the IMRC actuators and valve's in the intake. I know people have mixed feelings on the delete of these items but to each his own. I'm going to simplify the engine compartment as much as possible. I think I will add and electric fan also which will give me more room to work and a mpg or 2 extra. I'm from Indiana west of Indy about an hour.

Dang it looks like you have done alot of work and really know what you are doing. Why didn't you just swap in a 5.4? You may have already answered that sorry if you did I just skimmed over everything

Complete Asshat
Because that's a ton of work going from a v6 to a v8. All of the electronics are different, all the mounts are different, you need a new transmission to bolt up to it. A project like that nickle and dimes you all day long. Where as an engine rebuild is a piece of cake if you know what you're doing. Plus all the pieces go back into the same spots. And since the budget so far is like 500 on the truck, and 650 in parts. It's definitely a budget truck.

After this was all done I added a used veggie oil fuel system and drove it from Oregon to Indiana where I live now pulling a horse trailer with all our stuff and I did the whole trip on nothing but veggie oil 2200 miles.

Finally all parts are in. Tomorrow I'm taking the block in to get new cam bearings and countershaft bearings installed as well as all new freeze plugs. The heads are going in to get a valve job and new seals installed. Hopefully this weekend I can reassemble the engine.
