Transmission Replacement
#11
The owner of the garage drove my truck. He claims to be an expert on trannys and engines with 30+ years experience. He also claims to do $300,000 a year in Jasper tranny and engine replacements per year.
Quite frankly, I think they are both right.

I would look into the plugs and coils since it could be cheaper. I would at least do the coils DIY because that could save you a bit. Also I have heard of some dealers that do the plugs for as low as $300, so look around. If you are in the Phoenix, AZ area I know a dealer tech that could do it for A LOT less. He did my plugs for almost nothing.

Ask them how they do it. My brother worked for Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers for Many Many years and told me the same thing. I have worked at Ford dealers and the parts guys told me the same thing. When I bought the '99 new, it had a vibration in the driveline at 1850-2000 RPM when I drove it home from the dealer. After they tried several other things, Ford authorized a "REMANUFACTURED" transmission and had it sent to the Ford dealer. This is in a brand new truck! I refused to accept it and the Ford factory guy said WE DON'T HAVE NEW TRANSMISSIONS! The dealership kept the truck for 6 weeks until they got a NEW transmission through the "REMAN" system. My brother told me as well as a guy I worked with who worked at this Ford dealership previously as well as the parts guy from the Ford dealership I used to work at, that the only time you get a NEW engine, transmission or any other part that CAN BE rebuilt is when they run out of good rebuildable cores, they feed new units into the system and they are billed as "REMANUFACTURED". They waited 6 weeks for one to come through the system and it was indeed billed as "REMANUFACTURED", though it's easy to tell the new, they are packed completely different, aren't painted gray and don't have the "REMAN" tag on it. Maybe Ford changed their system, but I doubt it.

if you cops and plugs are older i would replace them(or have them replaced) first... becouse you will adventually have to anyways...... if that doesnt fix it... i would persue the transmission idea

I just had mine replaced by a local shop, they purchased the transmission from the dealer, the invoice said 2,250, total was $3,400 including replacing the input and output seals in the transfer case. I have a 3 year 36K mile warranty good at any Ford dealership. ( hopefully I will never need it) good luck
How is it driving??
