Truck Tool box
#32
I bought a used on from a friend of mine who bought a new F150 with the 5.5' bed and this tool box wouldn't fit in his. For $50, I couldn't go wrong. I wasn't worried about color, or low profile or anything else. Seems now I keep putting more stuff in it and have to re-arrange it all the time. LOL
I'd stay away from gull wing boxes because if you ever need to put something longer in there, you'll be wishing you had gotten a single lid instead.

I went to Lowe's on Saturday and looked at a few of the boxes they had on sale. I'm gonna wait until next weekend to see what is on sale (also so I can use my Veteran's discount).
I appreciate all of the pics folks.
Thanks

I went and looked at the Kobalt tool box tonight. As stated before, they are made by Better Built, however this is a very cheaply made box, the lid and area were the latches are extremely flimsy, the bottom tack welded the sides paper thin. Thanks, but not thanks to Kobalt.

I have the black low-pro Husky from Home Depot previously posted in the thread. The walls are a little thin, but it's a good box. I have had it loaded down before and never had an issue. I keep it relatively full. Locking mechanism is good.
My 07 had a Camlocker, which was a really well made box. Super sturdy. Much heavier gauge aluminum. Those are about 2x as expensive as the husky though. Would of kept it, but went to the dark side of a GTI as my daily for a short period and didn't have room to store it.
I know UWS are well made, but several of my friends' UWS boxes lid struts stopped working after minimal use,, making the lid not stay open.

I have a low profile, black UWS (well our local accessory place rebrands it to H&H). I like it but have considered taking it out to have more useable bed space. Looks good though and keeps stuff dry and out of obvious view.
You can see in the pics the depth of the box, as well as how low profile it is (favorite part) from side views.

A visit to Tractor Supply tonight verifies the online user reviews. These boxes also built by Better Built (sticker on the inside). Apparently Better Built will manufacture to different specs. Unlike the Kobalt boxes they do have a one piece construction and all of it diamond plated. The Kobalt had a smooth piece of aluminum for the bottom which was tack welded. The TSC boxes all lacked the lock rod cover and the lid lack good support. Not to mention many of them were already bent up on the shelves. I'll pass on the TSC boxes as well. I did see a Husky box at Home Depot however it was still packaged up. I liked what I saw, but I won't buy without opening one up. If I have to go up to a Delta Pro I will.
