Ford Dumps Microsoft Sync

don't get me wrong ... SYNC has worked pretty well for me so far. I haven't had any real "malfunctions" with it ... I just find the current setup/programming cumbersome to work though for things like navigation, and a few phone numbers here or there. It just seems very rigid and non-intuitive.
For instance ... on my phone, i can open google maps and tell it to find an intersection ... then ask for directions from wherever i am to "there". You'd THINK that SYNC or whatever on-board computer application running that stuff would work just as easily.

Hey everybody,
Here is the official announcement posted by Ford: https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...o-connect.html and this site gives you a good breakdown of what to expect: http://www.ford.com/technology/sync3/
SYNC 3 will not be standard in all vehicles. Even though SYNC 3 will be powered by QNX, Ford will still be working closely with Microsoft. Our Gen 1 SYNC system will continue to be Microsoft Auto based.

Just wondering what "tweaks and updates" are in the works, and when they are scheduled for release.
thanks.

BB is a dying company so for Ford to go with them just seems like a huge step backwards. I'm guess BB just offered them a screaming deal on a system that would "mostly" work. So with that being good enough, Ford jumped on board.
To bad as I give BB a couple more yrs until they are long gone.

i haven't used a blackberry in a while now, but when I did, the software side was great ... I still miss it. It was the hardware that fell way short if you ask me.
I dont know who's developing the hardware for the new SYNC system, but in my experience I have no reason to doubt that blackberry's software will be at least as good as what MS did with SYNC.

If the Bluetooth is turned off on your phone, the phone will not automatically connect to SYNC for phone calls. If you decide later that you would like to play music or hear calls through SYNC, just turn the Bluetooth back on and it will automatically connect!
I am not able to provide information about future updates, but you can certainly check if any are available now! Just log in at: Support.Ford.com If an update is available, it will appear in your Vehicle's To Do List. You won't be able to miss it.
