Wiring Aux. Reverse Lights
#11
I have the lights one... the wires routed in the back, and the ground is connected where the trailer ground goes. I'm just waiting to land that red wire somewhere. the wires coming out of that outlet are tiny. I'd probably run a #12 wire to the battery.
I had a jumper connected to test the lights

You won't need a #12 for LEDs. Only if you want some sort of aux output.
As far as the frame goes, mine is boxed all the way. I added #4 (maybe #2) for an electric winch. I can install the winch in my front receiver or rear receiver.

I have six more LED lights on the boat trailer that will be powered. it's dark at o'dark thirty when i go fishing... I "try" to be on the water and ready to leave the dock before the sun comes up.

Has anyone noticed their aux lights flickering? I added a set today with a relay triggered by the 12v side of one of the bed LEDs. This works fine when the engine is off, but with the engine on they flicker. Going to play with it tomorrow afternoon to see what happens if I bypass the relay or trigger with something other than from the LED.

I noticed it in the rear camera first, and when I got out to check I could see them flickering in person as well. I even stood behind the truck with them on, remote started, then turned the engine off to confirm they really do flicker only when the engine is running.
They're wired in parallel, not in series, if that helps. Supposed to be 18W each.

Worst hairday ever...

Options:
1. remove the flickering LED's
2. capacitor - the right size would reduce the flicker to be unnoticeable, however too big would have turn-on inrush too high and blow fuses.
3. relay harness to supply constant DC, but control ckt would need a cap
4. live with it.

Ford has the BCM outputting PWM on the exterior lighting when the engine is running, not sure why. I had similar issues when I was doing LED's on the front TS/park lights, threw a scope on and about 80% duty cycle (100Hz) with engine running.

How would I determine what size cap needed to just hold it steady for the relay?

Mine work fine tapped into the trailer harness, no flicker.

Do they come on with your reverse lights or the cargo lights? I wanted mine to come on with the cargo lights so I don't need to leave it in reverse to see everything while hooking up a trailer. Or using them as work lights.
