Need advice on a couple paint issues on my truck
#12
I got my silver lariat 4 weeks ago and took a clay bar to it. The first thing I noticed was that there is dirt in the paint in several areas. I have a 2014 Audi Q5 also silver and there is a world of difference in the paint quality. I have never found even one spec of dirt in the Audi paint.

I some issues with the paint missing in a couple of spots on my 2013 that I didn't realize until I got it home. I had Ford fix the paint issues, but I don't feel good about long term performance of the paint (just my personal opinion...no bashing please). For that reason I am going to let a couple of small paint issues go unresolved (but documented by Ford just in case) to keep the factory seal. Quality use to be Ford's focus now its sub-par to many economy imports. Yet I still buy and love my truck.

Thanks for all the feedback. As I mentioned, this is my first new vehicle purchase and I am not sure what is within acceptable tolerances and what merits a warranty repair. I sent my information to Brittany and hopefully I can get this resolved.
I also noticed the the area where my front fender meets my driver's door (bottom) seems to be pretty far out of alignment I am assuming this is not correct because it is not that way on the passenger side. Have a look:
Additionally, I noticed that the paint becomes quite wavy on the bottom of the vehicle. You can see it in the above picture. I was going go to the dealership this morning to look at other new vehicles to see if this was the same. However, I thought I would ask if anyone else has noticed this on their truck. I will include another pick below. In this pic you can see where it meets another piece that seems to be totally smooth.
Thanks again for all the feedback.

The paint is wavy because it has chip guard on down there. The smooth next to it, I'm guessing from the pic, is the cab lower rear corner. That's plastic and chip guard isn't needed.
I would say it's normal.

Judging by the profile pic, you are in MN? Whereabouts? Pm me. I'm a painter, and have been for 15 years, the last 6 were at Ford dealers. I'm my opinion, leave the boxside until you get hit. Seriously, it's not worth losing your truck for a few days. Might be waiting on parts etc, which could take longer.
As mentioned the wavy lower paint is chip/gravel guard, and is supposed to be there.
If you do get it fixed, do not worry about the paint "not lasting as long" as the factory paint. Contraryto popular belief, the paint used in body shops is usually the same paint used in factories, just on a smaller scale. Especially if you go to an f150 certified dealer. They will have a painter that was sent to training, to be the only one in the shop allowed to paint the 2015's. I was supposed to be the f150 certified painter at my former shop before I quit for personal reasons.

The wavy is normal and expected as Halfshell1 mentioned. The process for addressing these items is also normal. The dealer is being honest it seems and doing the right thing. I have a great dealer. I picked one off the lot that has worst paint issues. I have overspray between the driver and pass doors on both sides. On one side front and rear doors have a blemish where a paint glop dried between the mis-aligned doors and broke apart later. Also, on both sides inside the door jambs at the bottom. Its not entirely painted. As it curves under the truck where there is is just overspray. Where the molding is and it meets the wavy part its not painted at all and . There are also two bubbles in the roof and a exposed metal scratch in the bed ( Solvable with bed spray ).
The issue / extremity with mine is all four doors will need to come off to repair / repaint the door jambs underpart and roof ( They are mis-aligned as well ). Getting it back to factory finish is going to be nearly impossible.
Mine has been at the dealer for 13 days. 10 biz days. We are still waiting for a response from Ford to see if they want it back and or develop an action plan. If Ford does not take it back and the dealer does not get me out of it with a replacement there will need to be repair to my satisfaction / acceptance, price adjustment and lifetime warranty
.
With my bubbles the dealer is concerned it will crack and peal. They really want to get it all fixed. They also think it should not have left the factory and is completely unacceptable. They have mentioned getting me out of it but that is talk until its backed up.
I agree sometimes messing with it is worse than leaving it. I would be worried about the pealing and want to get it fixed ( If it bothers you ). If not, I would document and ask for a lifetime ownership warranty on the paint.

Typical shoddy paint application on a late model American made vehicle. We don't make them like we used to unfortunately. I would live with it versus getting it "fixed" because it's likely to make matters worse. Just be sure to avoid the "dirt under the paint spots" with a buffer or things will get even uglier!
