Default 94 shifts hard, speedo dosent work

When I drove the truck today I noticed that it would take a long time before it shifts and the engine speed is up there, then it would shift real hard. I looked to see that the speedometer and the odometer are'nt working. I have power to the dash and all the other gauges are working. 94 f150 302 4wd auto . . . . thanks

The transmission won't shift right if the speedo doesn't work. The VSS is on the rear differential, check it and the wires going to it.

Oh yeah, make sure you check your fuses first. Might be an easy one.

Took a closer look at the wiring. Long story short, removed the insulation off the wiring and its all green inside.

I guess I could have been a little more descriptive in the testing procedure, but at least you found it. Since you can't actually see the wires you would check for continuity along the length of the wire.
