Default Darrell's (TKat13) 2018 STX 4x4 Build

Since this forum has helped me so much and so quickly, figured I would share my build as I go along.

My prior build was a 2004 Mach 1, feel free to visit that site for you Mustang folks. It is located here: M1R

The truck: 2018 STX 4x4 with 2.7Eco 10 speed with the touch screen radio (8"?) I think it is the 101a package? I will check and update.

Here is a pic of the night I got it home, got to the dealership at 8PM and drove home at 9PM, awesome dealership! Sam Pack in Carrolton, see Jose Garcia. I'm a car nut and so is he, he knows his stuff.

Here she is the night I brought here home:

First Mod:
Fix the missing Bass...

Much of the info below is available in this very forum, figured I would share what I did here; I am not taking credit for the info just do not remember the exact member names.

Setup:
1.
Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1200F Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1200F
12" Shallow mount.
2.
Motorcraft WPT1212 Motorcraft WPT1212
Multi-Function Switch Connector (Amp Plug)
3.
Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Rockford Fosgate R500X1D
Prime 1 Channel Class D amp
4.
 PIXNOR 2-way PIXNOR 2-way
Speaker Box Terminal
5.
Kicker PK8 8 Kicker PK8 8
Gauge Power Amp Install kit (do not use this one, 2 foot to short)
6.
 PAC TR-4 PAC TR-4
Turn-on Module
7.
YMC Heavy Meta YMC Heavy Meta
l Ton Volume *****
8.
Scantool 426101 OBDLink Scantool 426101 OBDLink
MX Bluetooth
9. Forescan
10. 3/4" MDF (Home Depot)
11. Black carpet - AutoZone
12. Poly fill for the box (Hobby Lobby)
13. Big tube of Premium Glue, such as liquid nails, etc. Strong stuff.
14. Wood screws with the torx heads
15. 25' of wire loom (Lowes)
16. 3M Spray glue from Autozone (25.00 per can, but worth it)

I then started the box build, originally I built the box to go behind the seat, but then I discovered the seat did not articulate completely and I did not like that so the box was modified to fit under the seat. To be completely honest, I suspected this was going to happen so I took measurements that allowed for an easy conversion if I did not like it.

All screws holes were pre drilled and counter sink prior to screwing in the screws. All surfaces were Glued, creates a well sealed mate.

Box made of MDF.
Measurements: 30 x 15 x 4 x 5.5, with 1.5" stand-off legs.
The legs do not go all the way back, allows a bit of the box to go between the seat mounts.

As mentioned above, the notch in the wood was for the stud behind the seat, later decided to put it under the seat so that notch is not needed.

All screw holes were tapped and counter sunk.
Here is the counter bit I used:

Wish I would have taken more pictures during the process but I got side tracked.
Here are some pictures of the carpet added:

Installed in the truck:

The fit is so tight that I had to loosen the seat bracket bolts, slide the box in and then tighten the bolts back down, this box is in super tight! floor mat still fit as well.

Next was making the adapter for the sub output behind the pillar.

Orange/Red - Power 12v+
black/Violet - Ground
Brown - Remote Turn on 6 volt+
Violet - Subout +
Green - Subout -
Black - Shield

Please note that on the 2018 STX package, the Power 12V+ is NOT terminated at the fuse box, I tried to put in the fuse, but no go! So, during install I had to modify the pictures below to use the 8 gauge power wire I ran to use as the constant 12v+ for the connection to the PAC-TR4.

I also did not use the Black Shield wire.

Here I wired up the PAC TR5 and the RCA Cable:

The Blue wire goes to the remote on to the Amp. The Reason I used the PAC-TR4 is because that converts the 6 volt+ to 12 volt+ that most amplifiers need.
You can also see the RCA Pre-Amp sub signal.

Again, I modified this setup later to connect the yellow wire from the PAC-TR4 to the 8 Gauge power wire I ran for the amp.

I did not want to see the ground connection, so just to the right of the seat latch behind the black sound deadening material is the factory ground for the defroster. I sanded the area down as I believe in a good ground and reconnected the cables.

Ran the power cable and the remote sub volume controller in the factory wire trays, this was a piece of cake! Just pushed it through!

(will add more power cable run pictures after I take some)

Installed the remote sub volume ****.

I took the electronics out of the factory housing as I wanted a cleaner install. I also knew from experience (same setup installed in my daughter's '17 grabber blue mustang (can see in prior pics) that the blue LED with this kit is blindingly bright.

So, to fix the bright, I drilled a 1/16" hold for the LED to cut down on the brightness.

Installed by the E-Brake controller.

I used a guitar **** with a set screw, this allowed me to cover the silver nut.

How do you like the 2.7? I have a low mileage 2014 FX2 with the 5.0 and I'm finding I want/need 4wd. Local dealerships are offering great deals on STX 4X4s with the 2.7 but I'm curious how people like it
