Default bed sizes

What is the difference in a 2013 FX4 truck bed and a 2016 F150 bed?

A lot.

Different material, different dimensions, completely different body lines.

Basically, 2013 is steel, 2016 is aluminium. As other said, a lot of difference, completely new dimensions and etc.

Same short 5.5' bed on F150s for a while now. (Minus generational changes of course)

The silver one pictured. is the 6.5' bed. Again, same deal.

I do not think I would ever buy one with a bed that short (5.5). Might as well buy a SUV. Would be useless to me. It was a huge adjustment when I went from a 8' bed to a 6.5

If you're looking for the sizes from the 11, 12 and 13th generation trucks which are similar in length only and not materials or bedsides. The answer is 5.5', 6.5' and 8' in length.

I've owned trucks with 5', 5.5', 6', 6.5', 7' and 8' beds. The 5' bed on the Tacoma was a little short, but if a 5.5' bed on a full size won't carry it then I need 8'. The 6.5' wasn't enough to matter. With the tailgate down and a bed extender I'm at 8' with a 5.5' bed.

But what does matter is wheel base. A regular cab with 8' bed, Supercab with 6.5' bed and Crew cab with 5.5' bed are all essentially the same wheelbase and frame.

Gotta make a choice, do you need the full size rear seat or a longer bed. They do make a few Crew cabs with 6.5' beds, but now you're talking over a foot longer wheel base and overall length compared to a standard cab with an 8' bed. Might as well drive a bus. I have driven a bus and big trucks in the past and it isn't a lot harder to park and maneuver them than a 20' long pickup.

The 5.5' bed is standard on Supercrews and with the same overall length as a regular cab 8' or Supercab 6.5' bed is a good compromise.
