Default Smoked recon 3rd brake light with stock FX4 lights?

I currently have the stock third brake light. I would like to replace it due to the chance of it leaking, but a new light with the upgraded gasket is $100. I can get a Recon 3rd brake light with high powered cargo lights for $120.

My dilemma is that I don't want to spend the $300+ on the matching LED brake lights. I would like to put that money towards a Borla S-type, so I was wondering if you guys think it would look funny with a smoked LED 3rd light and stock FX4 brake lights?

I don't like the clear OEM one anyway. I never understood why they smoked the taillights but not the 3rd brake light.

Pic of my truck as it is now with stock FX4 lights:

just paint them yourself, nite shade will do the trick, add some LED bulbs and call it a day. That's what I did to my truck, 3 coats of nite shade, add clear coat, then buff.

A recon 3rd brake light will probably end up leaking worse than the OEM. Lots of guys on here have gone that route to fix this problem, and have ended up making it worse.

Seems like the only option then is to either caulk it (I'm against that) or buy an updated OEM one.

There are options for third brake lights with hill descent and w/o hill descent. Why would that matter? I have it and it seems to make the brake light more expensive.

On a side note, how do you like the Corsa DB?

Exactly what I had. No leaks at all. Thought it looked fine. I would not touch niteshades...

The gasket Recon uses is much thicker than stock.

I have the Recon smoked tails first, then added the 3rd brake light they sell, let me tell you about those high powered cargo lights, the smoke tint negates any high power, they are much less output than stock so if you need cargo lighting you're better off also adding some under rail led's. I could care less about cargo lighting.

Looks good, and damn is that truck clean. Paint looks like a mirror lol. I've used niteshade on a buddies car back in high school and it came out terrible, wouldn't want to risk ruining my brake lights.

That's what I've read, although I saw that they updated the stock one with a thicker gasket as well. But if the Recon is safe I'll more than likely just buy that, and if the time comes and I want the recon taillights to match I'll be one step ahead

True, I didn't even think about that. As long as they both have white LEDs I'm okay. I rarely have cargo but I did think about putting rail lights in too, just because I have LED strips just sitting around. I think my truck is slowly turning into your truck, after seeing your posts for the lund flares, PR-x tunes, and now the recon tail light...lol
