Default Cig Lighter Start

I did this mod and I love it. It is great. I did a valet bypass switch so if you turn my key the truck wont start. There are 2 wires that you must tap into. You get the starter from any auto parts store for like $5.

I did not gut the cig lighter and the only thing I had to cut was the orange part off of the housing. I stuck the button in just far enough to when the lighter is pressed the coils of it press the button.

This is the part that you stick the actual lighter in. There used to be a orange connector on the back of this. I cut it off with a hacksaw and drilled the hole out big enough to stick the button through.

Here you can see the lighter actually in the piece. You can see that I left the lighter in tact completely.

I then installed the push button far enough back so that the lighter can be placed in place. But when you actually push the lighter in it depresses the button down. So it looks just like a regular sig lighter. You can even take it out and show people that it is just a normal lighter

Shows it inside the plug.

I used some wireties on the shaft of the starter to make sure that it didnt back off. I just used to included hardware to make it tight.

These pictures are from another member on f150online. I was banned there (long story) but still have our write up saved. I didnt cut mine and wired up a valet switch to start the truck with a key. Its called the "squirt mod" in this post. These are the wires that you either a) tap into or b) cut and wire to valet switch and starter. I used his pictuers because I have a remote start/alarm so mine looks a mess. He cut his blue/green wire but all you need to do is tap into it. The red/blue wire is the one that you cut if you want a valet switch.

Locate the nearest 7mm socket and pull of the cover below the steering wheel

Behind the cover find two wires. BLUE/GREEN STRIPE RED/BLUE STRIPE the blue /green will be just a little thicker *this is a 2005 f150* yours may be different but i bet not. cut the two in half

Run the wire

splice into the blue/green i cut mine because butt con. were all I had. Then wire into the red/blue wire going away from the steering wheel, the one on the bottom.

Here is were you could do the valet mod if you want it to run with the key or button you could either splice into both wires. That will allow you to start it with the key or button when ever you wanted. or if you wanted to have a "valet" mode you can wire a switch in between the red/blue wire on a regular toggle on off switch with two post wire the blue/green coming from the key to one side, on the other side wire the red/green and the wire going to your push button

If you want your key to work all the time then just tap into both wires. If you dont want your key to work at all, then cut the red wire. If you want to use a valet switch follow above instructions. Tap into/cut Red/Light Blue wire and the other to the Blue/Light Green wire. It doesn't matter which wire goes to what end of the starter. As long as they connect.

Sorry for the jumbled up directions. If you have any questions ask me and maybe I can make a little more sense out of it for you. Lol. The first pics are mine. And the second pics are GCW's at f150online.

dont tap the red/blue cut it put one end to one pole of the switch and the other to the other pole with another wire going to the push button.

Oh yeah. And make sure you wrap electrical tape around every connection. On mine I had a loose connection somewhere and it kept blowing my ignition fuse.

It's been posted on the other F150 forum(s), so it's nothing new to most of us.

A cute trick. I'll pass.

You did a nice write up on it; well laid out. My concern would be if I ever sold or traded my truck; I'd have to find a person who also likes the push button start.

Trading it into a dealer would most likely want you to convert it back. Then you have nasty splices in the main harness.
