Default Your guys' thoughts on bull bars

I was just wondering what your guys' opinions are on bull bars, for any truck. I was looking at someones pic a few minutes ago, and somone asked if you could pull someone out with the bullbar. That reminded me of a buddy of mine I talked to about a week ago. Why he even think of doing this(maybe its cuz he drives a chevy) I dont know. Some one was stuck in the mud, and what does he do....he wraps the tow strap around the bull bar, and give the stuck truck a tug, bends the bull bar completly straight out. So now it looks like a luggage rack mounted on the front. Of course he pulled it off, but was P##Sed off cuz he f###ed up his bull bar. I told him, its your own stupid fault.
Thats why I will never put a bull bar on, cuz you have to remove the tow hooks. Whereas with a grille guard, you can reinstall the tow hooks.

Moral of the story....dont pull anything stuck, out, with a bull bar.

I find bull bars to be worthless. As you said, you can re-install the hooks with a good grille guard. Not only that, but here in Wyoming, a good grille guard is known as a "kritter killer" that usually keeps you from destroying the front of your truck if you were to hit a deer or antelope.

The bull bar is more for looks than anything else. I do like the look of a bull bar, I would never try to pull someone out ith it though. That's stupid. I also like the brush guard, trying to convince my wife that I need one. Better functionality and better looks. There is my opinion Cole.

the only reason I would get a bull bar....(actually id get more of a push bar like cops have on the front end). so i could push ppl, or hit i rear end someone or someone cuts me off and i hit them....i dont want it to crunch in

ive seen many bull bars/grill guards that have been in relativly slow speed and it smashes into the grill and messes up the entire front.........

just my .02

Our squads had a great push bar, but that is all they could do was push. An Officer, not myself, hooked up to it and another Officer's truck and pulled him out. It was damaged during this. I understand why he hooked it where he did because the Impalas are very low to the ground.

Are there not brands that dont ned the tow hooks out for thr 97-03's? There are a couple for the 04-08's.

I have used the skid plate plenty since I had mine put on, but I would never try and use it to pull people out.

Thats what I was getting at. I like the look of the bull bars, and the skid plate I bet comes in handy, but why would anyone EVER use it to pull someone out.

You could always mount some large traffic "pacifiers" on there.

to take away the look, you could put a tire on it. kinda like rubber baby buggy bumpers.
