Default Ham radio to battery

The customary way to connect a ham radio is directly to the battery. On the 2018 F150 there is what I believe is a shunt on the negative battey post. This is part number DS7T-10C652-AC.
Best practices? Is battery neg "Ground"?

You've posted in the How-To forum of pre-'97 F150s. Ask the BBS staff to move your thread to the appropriate forum, and delete my reply.

I have always run both power and ground direct to the battery on all my ham radios.
