Default engine shuts off

I have a 1987 f150 5.0 c6 trans.100,00 mitioniles.Just started this.At a idle or slowing down to stop, the engine stops. It will restart but it sounds like the timing is off because of a preignition knock.
Anybody heard of this?
Thanks

Motor mechanically would seem to be going south. Check your intake manifold vacuum, if high there may be a fuel delivery problem. Noise sounds like an internal wear situation. You may have a bad gasket.
