Alright folks I could really use your help on this one! I bought a 1995 Ford F-150 lifted 4" with 33" tires on it. Steering wheel has always had a large amount of play and been 90 degrees off center. I replaced all ball joints (upper and lower), wheel bearings (inner and outter), tie rods, drag link, center link, steering damper and installed a Pro comp drop pitman arm. After all this, I got it aligned at the nearest Tire Warehouse. Sure enogh, still out of alignment. My main issue is the pitman arm is not centered and I can only place it in 4 different grooves onto the steering shaft. I can turn sharp left, and hardly turn right. Please any advice?!?!

Wish I could help, but just have to wait for someone who knows more than I do about this one. Hope someone will chime in.

 

Your steering shaft could be damaged. Or simply worn out.

 

Very possible, they're bad about that on these old trucks. I know I had about 4 to 5 inches of play in my steering wheel with my old steering shaft, replaced it with one from a junkyard (no one carries a new replacement shaft anymore) and while it's still loose it's much better than it was.

 

Take the pitman arm off and rotate the gear to the next notch, then you should have equal movement in both directions, however if you have a lot of play you will most likely need to replace the steering gear anyway and they come pre centered.

Careful you don't turn the steering wheel while it's disconnected for gear replacement or you could over extend the clock spring.
