Default misfire issue

it started running sluggish 3 days ago after changing the plugs and cleaning the corrosion off of the inner tabs of distribution cap. ordered new distributor cap and rotor and was replacing today when the engine started misfiring. tried a new rotor button and also replaced with the old one but kept doing it. eventually replace the plugs again
I've come to assume its either the distributor itself or something to do with the ignition

sounds like a plug cable misplaced or not plugged in all the way. Or your messing with the distributor. Stop and do some trouble shooting before you change too many things - that are probably not a problem, such that you have added a problem instead of trouble shooting.

check the plug wires at both end, and make sure you followed the firing order with plugging them back in. Try and make sure you have spark, and it is strong. Go out at dark and visually inspect things and you may see a glow or spark jump, meaning things are grounding out your spark.
