Default General question on oil pressure sensor

Or switch or sending unit, which ever ford called it on the 9th gens.

Anyway, weather and work have not be cooperating with me on tinkering around with my 1996 f150 aka my first wife, aka my project truck.

So I was thinking, just purely curiousity as I'll test it out when time and weather allows. Did the oil pressure sensor give a durectvread to the dash gauge or was it more of a dummy gauge like the 2000ish cherokees?

What I mean by that is around that time jeep switched the sensor/dash gauge to read a specific psi unless the pressure was below a certain threshold, which would then give a CEL where previously it was a direct read set up.

Does the sensor on a 1996 f150 also direct read or is it an idiot gauge?

It's very easy to pull a JY '87-95 oil pressure gauge to swap into your cluster (shown in other pics in that photo album) and then swap from the switch to the older sender.

Well, Ford did that because of dummy drivers.

wasn't just ford. Jeep switched theirs over around the same time, I suspect others too.

But an easy swap to do.

Btw is that link to the part#s for the swap to direct read?
