Faster wipers in an 8th gen?
Hi Folks,
I'm here in Rainy Washington state, and the fall pour has just begun. There are times when even a modern vehicle's wipers don't keep up at highway speeds, and I don't expect a miracle... But...
Does anyone know of any upgrades to get some more speed out of the wipers? On other vehicles I have owned of this era, it's been possible to swap in motors from the next generation or two of vehicles with a little re-wiring. Is there an appropriate motor/ governor swap? Or a way to mod the existing governor?
Thanks! -Loki

Swapped my wiper motor out for the same slow reason. Original-spec replacement was much faster than the 20+ year-old motor - guess the original motor just got tired over the years.

It would help if we knew what truck you're talking about. Put all its details in your signature as this caption explains:

87 XLT lariat, 4x4, short box. I don't know if that has any influence on wiper motor or controller though.

Not your profile here - your SIGNATURE, at the link in my post above. Not on SuperMotors - that's just where I keep my images.
'87 uses the same wiper motor as '96, but with 2 connectors instead of 1.

Newer wiper motors are not likely to fit, and they wouldn't be faster than a new '87-96 motor anyway.
