Code 542 today
I was driving in the rain about two weeks ago and was stopping and starting with no problems. This was the day before I was headed to Sturgis. I had no problems at all with fuel or any other electrical. So, when I got home and parked the truck two weeks ago it was for practical purposes good to go. After packing my good truck for the trip I decided to take the old 94 and park it elsewhere in the driveway. That is when it would turn over and not start. (thankfully it crapped out in my driveway). Since I was going away I left the troubleshooting for two weeks. I came home and tried to start it today and then I quickly checked the codes and used the code reader and it came up with code 542. You can hear the fuel pump barely want to work, but it sort of fizzles out. Before this happened it was strong pump; the fuel selector switch worked for both pumps; the inertia switch is NOT the problem, but I suspect there is a ground issue since it seems related to the rain a couple of weeks ago. These fuel pumps (Motorcraft) and tanks are brand new from about 4 years ago and ran strong until this happened. I will investigate grounds....
