Default Add factory tach?

I have a 1995 F150, 4x2, 5 speed, 4.9 liter six, 194k miles, still running strong, NO rust. Looking to add factory tach (I like full gauges). Can I swap in a used gauge cluster without messing with any wiring? Can I use a gauge cluster from a V8 model? If I buy a gauge cluster with a non-working speedometer, can I swap in my current speedometer? Where does the mileage data live from my odometer display? Is it stored in the truck's on-board computer or does it "live" in the speedo itself? Thanks in advance.

Data stored in PSOM (the center speedometer/odometer section).
No messing with wiring.
94-95 cluster will work, doesn't matter if it's from auto or manual or I6 or V8, they are all the same

Watch the date truck was manufactured, last half of 95 only works with last half of 95. So if your truck was a 07/95 you will have to find a 07/95-12/95, likewise if your truck is 02/95 you can't use 07-12 of the 95's.

Default Thanks...

Thanks for your response fltdriver.

My truck was built in 02/1995, so any unit from 1994 thru 2/1995 will work? Secondly, the gauge cluster gauges appear "modular" (replaceable individually), although I have not removed mine yet to look. Can my speedo be removed from my cluster and re-planted in a "tachometer" cluster? I would like to keep my odometer reading intact. MANY THANKS!

Your good for sure up to 06/95, you may be able to use from the later months but I have heard of a few issues arising from this and it's been said to be safe to stick with the first half of the year.

Yep, just pop the cluster and surround out, unscrew the PSOM, swap it into the new one, and reinstall.

FWIW if I were in your shoes I would also take this time to replace all of the bulbs on the new cluster. If you do it now you won't have to pull it again later for a burnt bulb. Regular incandescent bulbs are super cheap on rockauto, you could also go with LED's for the backlight bulbs (around gauges and PSOM) but keep in mind that you still want all of the warning lights to be regular bulbs, most could use LED but I know for sure that the battery light must remain a normal bulb because of the way it's triggered through resistance.

When I swapped my bulbs out I ordered 24 of them and had a few left over, I think it's like 18-22 that you actually need. This is counting the ones for the HVAC controls as well.
