Default 4x4 issues (assuming electrical)

Hello again forum. I'm having issues with my 94 xlt 4x4 with a 5.0 and 3.55 gears and a 4 speed auto. My 4x4 light came on when I turned it on a couple days ago. I tried to turn it off and now nothing happens. Tried it in motion in gear, in motion in neutral, in park, and in neutral stopped. The only time I get any result is if it's in neutral...then I hear a click. It's the same for both the 4x4 button and the low range button. Either way the lights don't change...4x4 on and Low range off. Any ideas would help.

Quickly shift back and forth from drive to reverse, several times each way, when you press the button to disengage, also the wire loom running to the transfer case is really easily damaged and I had one actually pull a wire loose when I was driving through some tall brush. Just check and clean the connections at the case if rocking it doesn't help

Let me know how it went. I once fought 4x4 problems for 6 months fully replacing the transfer case and all the connections at the case and rebuilding the switch a half a dozen times only to find out someone had taken the fuse out of the panel before I bought it.
