Default 1990 negative battery cable

Wondering if someone can help me out. I had to replace my starter in my 1990 Ford F150 EFI. The lower bolt snapped off when I was taking it off. I was able to drill it out and replace with a helicoil, but it took me a while to complete this project. I've stupidly forgotten where I removed the negative cable from. But after looking into this, should the negative cable from the battery even be attached to the starter? The positive from the switch is connected fine, but where should the negative cable from the battery be attached?

Can be connected most any part of the engine or frame just be sure that engine to chassis grounding straps are in place. It might have well been connected to one of the starter mounting bolts. Just be sure connection clean and tight.
