Steering Column
Hi All!
My husband and I just purchased a 1992 f150 with ignition switch issues. It currently runs off a box by the clutch pedal with a slider switch to start. What years are compatible for steering column replacement? Thanks!

92 to 96. You may have to change the clock spring which is the black plastic circle behind the steering wheel if you use a different year, but the column is the same.
It may also just be a simple repair to your column. When you turn the key, it moves a rod which pushes that little slider switch (also called the ignition switch).

I have the dreaded ignition switch problem associated with the 89 f150. From what I understand it's an acuator problem that makes turning the switch very stiff. I don't think I have the capability to fix this problem myself. Anyone know approx. Shop cost would be. I assume you have to take apart steering column.
Thanks

I haven't gone through the ignition rod problem, but I have dropped the column to replace the shift tube, and dropping the column is really easy. Remove a trim piece or 2, and there's only 4 bolts holding the thing into the dash. Undo one U-joint in the linkage under the dash and you can pretty much have the whole thing on your bench in about 15 minutes
