Default Ignition Swith

While my starter was doing its death rattle, I had to enlist the help of my woman to try to start the truck while I was Gallaghering it with Mjölnir. I never really noticed how much harder it is to twist the key without the "thingy" as she called it. I honestly don't know what its called so "thingy" seems appropriate until someone can post with its proper name.

Anyway, how would one go about replacing it without replacing the entire ignition switch? Finding a truck at the junkyard that still has the key in it that actually matches all 4 locks (ignition, 2x door and glovebox) would be rare.

Picture below for reference...

Sorry for the gigantic picture...

You can replace the ignition lock cylinder and then get a new key cut that will open the doors and start the truck. The first half of the key is for the ignition lock cylinder, and the second half is for the doors. You just need a skilled locksmith to cut the correct key. You will obviously need the new key and the old key.

So there is no way to just replace that thing that sits on either side of the key without replacing the ignition switch?

Maybe? You would probably still have to pull the cylinder fo fix it. Did it use to spin freely without a key in it? If so it needed to be replaced anyways.

Not really, no. It's probably possible but.... do what BLD said - go buy a new lock cylinder and go see a real locksmith.
And the ignition key shouldn't fit the glovebox - that's what the round key is for; so it should be just matching the door and ignition switch.

Yes, the metal part would spin around without the key but it wouldn't start, just spin around. My key also comes out while the truck is running. Kinda nice when I'm letting the truck warm up when its cold out so I can still lock my front door but its a real PITA when they just fall out when I'm bouncing around off-road.

Guess I'll see about getting a new ignition switch and have it rekeyed.

The SWITCH is the electrical part under the column with all the wires. The key goes into the LOCK CYLINDER.

The captions in this photo album explain how to repair one BEFORE the bezel (or "thingy", if you prefer the technical name) comes off:

But after it falls apart, the cylinder needs replacement. You can buy an aftermarket (Chinese) one at most parts stores for ~$15, but you'll probably end up carrying an extra key for the doors. A new MotorCraft kit can be built to match your original key (so it still works the doors), but it's ~$85 retail. However, I recently found one on eBay for $30 delivered, so I bought it just to have. The PNs to use when searching eBay/Amazon are given in those captions.

Looks like the links you provided are for newer models.

The Ford Parts website isn't listing F-150s for my year since their website updated (they are aware and are working on it) but it does list Bronco.

I will contact Ford tomorrow and see what they say. Trying to keep to all motorcraft parts when at all possible.

Same part numbers as Ford Parts lists for the Bronco.

Each part number has a different Number and Cut Letter.

How do I go about finding out what Number and Cut Letter? Is it written on the cylinder somewhere?

Number 1 - Cut Letter A
Number 2 - Cut Letter B
Number 3 - Cut Letter C
Number 4 - Cut Letter D
Number 5 - Cut Letter E
