I don't remember having to remove any window trim. A few screws on the plastic piece that holds it to the truck and four more once it's off that hold the speaker to the plastic. Super easy. Not sure if there's a difference there between a reg cab and an ext cab

I was trying to remember and thinking the same thing. I replaced the speakers in my Ext cab and my reg cab and I don't remember pulling any window trim. I might have, but I don't remember doing it.

Edit......here's the Ext cab diagram I found. It shows the same thing. Speaker Grill, then the speaker behind it.

That's a matter of opinion. You could go with Polk audio, alpine, anything you want. I'm sure those high dollar speakers are going to make the stock radio thump! Lol

Seriously, depends on your radio, power, etc. I'm still running a set of factory junk yard speakers that sound great and don't rattle and driving them with my JVC 50wx4 channel head unit.
