There are at least 3 possible originals: the small rectangular dome-only (chrome or black); the chrome metal dome w/map lights (right side of this pic); the large black plastic dome/map (center).
Many Ford dome lights will screw in & work, but almost any dome light can be made to work. I prefer the late-80s-late-90s GM eyeball dome, shown here:

Dome light
Hello to everyone, I'm new in this forum.
Thanks for your participation.
I just bought a 96 F150 that had a black plastic dome light, in the past I had a 93 F150 that had a chrome dome light. I don’t know if from some year they began to bring this type of plastic interior light or if it doesn’t correspond to the vehicle and was changed by the previous owner. Thanks for your valuable help !

I am not sure what year they switched over to the plastic housing but it is better because it does not heat up as fast. However the chrome one is good with LED bulbs (reduces heat a lot). That plastic one does not look right to me; I think it needs to be flipped over because it looks like the map lights reflect upwards. Look up above for Steve83 posts and you will learn tons about everything about these trucks.
