You can chop the muffler out, and clamp some pipe in place. Welding is not a need.

That being said, I can't remember if it's a straight shot, or if the inlet/outlet are offset from each other.

Sure - you can chop anything out without welding. Even a door, or the roof, or half the engine.

There are probably a few businesses that weld nearby. Put your location in your profile.

Why? Do you plan to NEVER drive on public roads or lands again?

Depends on your definition of "done".

A professional shop probably won't do it because it's illegal. Everywhere. Even if there are no local vehicle inspections (which is very likely to change dramatically in the foreseeable future).

They are, by slightly more than the diameter of the pipe.

Nope, nothing illegal about removing a muffler from an exhaust system.

Nothing illegal?? I would like to see if you are able to drive past a police officer with that muffler removed without being cited. I bet you can't. The whole idea seems idiotic to me.

You must be in Kalifornia.

You would be surprised at the volume with just the resonator, and whether or not you step on it hard or not.

It's pretty much illegal everywhere to remove the mufflers. In Florida, it is written directly into law that any exhaust modification that increases the volume, is completely illegal.

Is it enforced? Hardly ever. Have I changed the exhausts on everything I've ever owned to add volume? You bet I have. But it is technically right there in black and white.

I haven't seen where they state removal of mufflers, but i have seen that you can't make it louder than X db, whatever the state sets it at.

Local laws are irrelevant. Federal law has precedence, and it says emissions controls are required on any road or land supported by federal money (which means ALL paved roads & public lands). Sound is an emission; the muffler controls it. And local laws & enforcement are changing fast...

In Oregon exhaust systems have to be in good working order. I don't know that it says specifically anything about mufflers, but since an exhaust system has one as a standard....one would think to be considered good working order a system should be complete. Though if quiet enough, no one will even know right?
