Not all trucks have them, so I don't think it's for anything important.

My crew cab had it. I thought it was protecting against flex....but what protection do we have against this flex!?

I just checked both of my F150's and don't have that plate on either of them. I've been checking the parts catalog and can't find any reference to this plate.

Okay well after a week of going to the junkyards, I have yet to find any 92-96 fseries truck without the plate. I'm in east Texas if it matters.

I'll have to check where both my trucks were made
Might be a specific plant?

Edit... my 95 was built in June of 95 at the Wayne Michigan plant. Have to check in a few days on my 94.

It's a harmonic dampener used to deaden vibrations in the cab by absorbing them

When I went to the salvage yard last Friday, I saw two extended cabs with a similar plate bolted to the inside of the cab on the back wall.

What he said. My 92 flareside has one too. I asked a dealership mechanic. And was told it was fords lame fix for using the wrong gauge sheet for the cab backing. I keeps the harmonic noise of the cab back vibrating to a minimum.
