Default Leaking triangle mirrors on a '95

I just bought a clean '95 but the triangle mirrors leak when it rains. Anybody have experience with fixing this?

You must mean the vent windows? You might remove the door panels and there is a screw at the bottom of the vent window that runs through a spring. The spring could be broken, but highly doubtful. More than likely, wore out or over tightened. I would try adjusting that first and then looks into new seals. Another possibility is that the vent locks are wore down. They can be replaced. I've seen them in LMCTRUCK.COM for around $10 a side.

The seals are bad, mine were split, open the window and look at the seal from the outside, you can buy new ones from lmc truck or be lazy like me and patch them with black RTV. Can't even tell I did it and they don't leak a bit any more.

Is it not possible that the mounting hardware and or spring are bad or loose? I mean, it's easy to check for before spending money on new seals. I've only replaced one or two of these windows? I don't get you guys telling someone to replace before they look for possible issues that might be able to be adjusted. In case you didn't know it, the vent windows have an adjustment in the door frame!

He can certainly check that, may be his problem. My reply was based on my truck. My seal was dry and split right down the center. I fixed it for free with black RTV (I know not ideal but it worked). Next time I make an LMC truck part order I'll probably grab new ones. The OP hasn't chimed back in tho so none of this matters.

They're called butterfly mirrors.

I locked myself out of my truck years ago on a fire scene and had to bust out my vent window. Almost 8 years later, I replaced the "temporary" plexiglass piece that I made with a real vent window. I had hell learning how to remove one at the salvage yard. When I got home and installed the replacement, it was not sealing. Someone here guided me through adjusting the screw/spring combo adjustment and I got it sealed up like new. My seals are all dry rotted, but I have no leaks. I also replaced my door seals when they leaked. The new seals leaked because no one told me until I purchased new door seals that the striker can wear out and make the door sag. I replaced the $10 striker and it was like new again.

It's all good, I'm a cheap SOB! I'll adjust until there's no adjustment left before I buy a new part.

I'd just like to say I love those little windows for that reason, if something ever does happen it's cheaper to replace that little window than the main glass.

Then again that also makes me paranoid that it attracts theives, or the pin won't be out all the way someday.

Butterfly mirrors? Never heard that one before. Are you referring to the vent windows?
