Default Ext Paint

Has anyone painted their early 90's XLT? If so, how many gallons of primer/paint did you use? Also, did you shoot any clear when you were done? Asking before I buy cause that's always a good idea...

Doing door jambs? Under the hood, inside of the box? I did just the exterior, just used a spray can primer to cover up bondo and bare metal, a quart of black so that the truck was one colour then I think it was 3 quarts of blue. Ask wherever your buying the paint, some colours cover better then others and will require more or less.

True, it all depends on the paint you use and the paint you're covering up. Whether you need to put on clearcot depends on whether you use a single stage paint or do a basecoat/clearcoat like it came from the factory.

I plan on repainting everything. Door jambs, engine bay, all of it. Bed is most likely getting rhino lined inside. Full paint job, and I'm sure the colors are going to make a difference. Probably going to go with a solid grey primer/sealant once I finish up with a bit of cancer removal. Still have to determine the colors.

Grey primer is the hardest to cover from what I've always experienced. Red primer covers well.
