Default What may this be?

Hello!

I recently inherited my Uncle's old 89 F150 302 5.0. i was exploring around this and saw something i have no idea what could be going on here. i saw this pipe, with a small section of hose, with what appears to be a spark plug in it. and also the dangly wire above it.
i have been trying to work on the vehicle as it has other issues (pinging under load, poor mileage, occasional gas smell, and the check engine light flashes when i accelerate) but i saw these and have no idea what is going on.

Any suggestions (about everything mentioned) would be greatly appreciated!

What is this

It kind of looks like the tubing that runs from.the smog pump to the crossover pipe in the back of the heads. If the smog pump was removed, that's your answer.

If you don't already have a Haynes, this explains which edition to get:

When you have one, read it cover-to-cover at least once.

Holy Crap! thank you for the help guys!

i did pull codes during an key on, engine off test. what i got from that was
67, 52, 32.

i have not done an engine running check yet. and i dont know exactly what transmission is in it but it is an automatic with overdrive.

and only to be clear on my end, the links are for an 83, i assume this is still valid for my 89?

again, thank you!

steve's links and captions are valid for your truck. his vehicle is an '83 bronco. that is probably why it is linked on the page

The pictures I post are hosted in my vehicle registry at SMN (an image hosting site), and my truck was originally an '83, so that appears at the top of each of my SMN pages. Ignore that - study the images & their captions. This one explains how to decode the VIN, and the VC label, and collect all the truck's details for your signature:

It also contains a link that explains how to embed pics in your posts.

When you post DTCs, include the number & the COMPLETE definition for each one.
