what to do
You tell us. Have you looked at them yet?
The camshaft in a sports car engine is designed for high-RPM horsepower; the one in a truck is designed for low-RPM torque. There may be other differences, like the firing order.

that's exactly what i'm trying to figure out. unfortunately i'm finding no definite answers. the casting number says 91-96 2 bolt mains but can't read enough to determine mustang or not. the fuel rails look different but both sets of injectors are orange. i don't know if the color means anything or not. i haven't removed the engine from the truck as it still runs well but burns a lot of oil. if anything needs to be changed, i'd like to do it before the swap as i use the truck for work and am trying to mitigate downtime. any help would be appreciated. legible casting numbers are f7se.the engine was rebuilt 4 years ago but came out of a wrecked 95 mustang. i'm assuming the engine was original to the car

Yes, on the color.

The truck will run better & be more driveable with its original engine, or a direct-replacement. I prefer Jasper for remans, but in general, I prefer good used original engines. The one in my Bronco has a million actual miles without a rebuild.

You'll need to swap parts from the truck to the Mustang 302. Intake including injectors ect., timing cover, water pump and all accessory brackets, balancer, distributor, flywheel, oil pan and if the truck is roller swap the cam. As mentioned a car cam will make the truck a turd, you'd cuss yourself for not doing it. Roller cams last forever unless oil runs dry, nothing on a engine makes it past that. The crankshaft is the same no matter the firing order. Swapping those parts would add some time to an engine swap but that could be cut down by having the Mustang 302 ready for new parts.
If the truck isn't roller Comp sells a couple nice RV type cams. Be a real nice upgrade.
