Question Transmission question for the AOD gurus

1993 Ford F150 XLT
5.0 V8, AOD transmission

I got this truck 2 or 3 weeks ago and when I would drive it, it would slip out of drive at around 55, and I'd have to rev the engine at times to get it to go into gear. Now, it will not go into drive but still has reverse. So, with everything I read from adjusting the TV cable or it was more than likely the torque converter, I decided to remove the pain and inspect the filter and the pan for any metal as well since I would have to remove the transmission anyway to put on a new torque converter. When I removed it I found two pieces of thin metal. I am attaching pics to see if anyone who has worked on AOD's a ot or rebuilt a few can recognize what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like I may be doing a rebuild as well.
