Default Transmission issues

Got an 89 Ford bronco full size 5.0 with a 5 speed iv searched for answers to no end can't find anything out hopefully I can here need to know if I need to replace the whole trans or could I get lucky enough for it to be only in the top plate I have no 5th gear ( overdrive) and when I go to put it in reverse it immediately pops out and grinds and no you can't even hold it in no matter how hard ya try soon as the truck starts to roll in reverse it immediately pops out anyone got any ideas weather to replace whole trans or just too plate

You should at least check the condition of the 5th/Reverse shift fork before going further. The top plate can be pulled from inside the cab if you don't want to pull the trans to check it.
