Transmission issues
I have a 92 F150 with the AOD transmission. The original transmission began to slip, and eventually would not shift out of first. We replaced the transmission with a new unit, and it was able to shift into second. However, it would not shift into third or engage over drive. A few weeks ago, it started to slip so badly that it will not enter any gear. Is this an indication of the failure of the torque converter? I'm really lost and I really miss cruising around in this truck.
The TV cable adjustment is critical for the AOD transmission to work correctly. When properly adjusted the AOD is a very durable transmission with a pretty long lifespan. If the TV isn't adjusted correctly the AOD will need a rebuild in a very short amount of driving. Below are a couple of links that tell you how to adjust the TV cable. You can try this but your AOD may be too far gone.

An improperly-adjusted TV cable can destroy an AOD in just a few miles. This is from the Ford service manual:
